Should Philanthropies Operate Like Businesses?

This recent article explores the choices non-profits make when structuring their business models.  Colonie Senior Service Centers lines up most closely with the “Yes: Good Intentions Aren’t Enough.”  We try to provide individuals just enough safety nets to meet life’s challenges on their own.  There is a strong emphasis on strategy and outcomes and it is our belief that most people want to be responsible for themselves.  This approach also allows us to spread our resources over a wider population helping people to meet only what they need rather than trying to be everything to everyone, especially in these days of limited resources.
