About Us


Colonie Senior Service Centers (CSSC) is a nonprofit, community-based senior service organization. We serve seniors and their families in Albany County, Schenectady County, Rensselaer County and throughout the Capital Region.

CSSC was established as a not-for-profit organization in October 1981, and has been serving seniors and their families continuously in the Colonie and Capital Region for 30 years.

Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc. (CSSC) is the largest provider of programs and services for seniors in the area. We help seniors remain healthy, active and independent; preserving and enhancing their quality of life as they grow older.

Colonie is home to the Capital Region's largest senior population over 65 - 31% of Albany County's seniors, 17,000 strong, live in Colonie, Colonie's senior population, aged 75 and older, grew by 37% (based on 2000 Census, U.S. Census Bureau; we are awaiting the new census details).

In the past 30 years we have built a reputation as a leader in quality programs and services that have a positive impact on the lives of those we serve. CSSC is an integral part of the community, excelling at building collaborative community partnerships to meet the needs of seniors and their families.

Through the years we have added and expanded our programs and services to include Senior Dining (1982), Health & Wellness (1983), Transportation (1984), Bright Horizons Adult Day Services (1985), Sheehy Manor (1998), Beltrone Living Center (1999), Bright Horizons at Carondelet (2004), Bright Horizons at Pine Grove (2007), Umbrella of Colonie (2008), the Driver Fitness center (2008), and the Financial Literacy Resource Center (2007).

Our programs and services are designed to help seniors remain independent, active and healthy. In 2010, our 3 Bright Horizons programs provided care and respite for 85 caregiving families; Umbrella of Colonie expanded services to meet growing needs and membership grew by 114%; Transportation Services provided 17,811 rides; Healthy Aging Programs saw attendance of nearly 12,000 with over 25 classes each week; and our 2 Housing Facilities provide independent housing for 425 seniors. Our Volunteer Program boasts nearly 300 dedicated volunteers that contribute over 20,000 hours of their time and talent each year.
